After causing chaos in a big house, Venkata Ramana Reddy (Mahesh Babu) takes a moment to reflect. He realizes that what his mother Vasundhara (Ramya Krishna) wanted to get rid of wasn’t the expensive things he broke, like crockery or a chandelier, but him – the unwanted son. In an earlier scene, he expressed his uncertainty about whether his mother truly loves him or not. Now, he has his answer. This scene is powerful and stands out in an otherwise unexciting story by writer-director Trivikram Srinivas, in their third collaboration with Mahesh Babu, following Athadu and Khaleja.
“Guntur Kaaram” aims to be both a heartfelt family movie and a mass/masala film. Other Telugu films, like Trivikram’s “Atharintiki Daaredi” and “Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo,” have successfully blended these genres before. However, this film seems like a weak combination of both, spiced up with Guntur’s fiery red chillies, hoping that the star power of Mahesh Babu will attract his fans.
